Nicholas J. White, AIA LEED-AP
Founder Principal

Principal and founder of the firm, Nick White received his BA in Fine Arts from Ohio Wesleyan. He continued his education to earn a Bachelor of Architecture form the College of Design, Architecture and Art at the University of Cincinnati in 1975. His early career included work in firms within Cincinnati and eventually Grand Rapids, focusing on large scale commercial projects. He received his licensure as an architect and made his way to Petoskey, Michigan in 1979 where he opened his own firm which continues today. Nick is licensed to practice architecture in Michigan, Ohio, South Carolina, and Florida.

A native of Ohio, White has always had strong ties to the shorelines of northern Michigan, spending summers since the 1950’s at the family cottage. Drawing on the influence of the great period architects, his style blends the notion of the Midwest cottage with East Coast shingle style architecture. His understanding of the cottage lifestyle and a dedication to the highest level of design, has created a name synonymous with residential waterfront architecture throughout northern Michigan.  

As a principal of the firm, Nick works on individual projects to ensure their design and execution creates places for families to gather for generations.

Nick Liebler, AIA NCARB LEED-AP
Managing Principal, President

Nick Liebler attended Lawrence Technological University in southern Michigan where he earned both a Bachelor of Science in Architecture and Master of Architecture with a concentration in Urban Design. Working for award winning firms in the Detroit area, Nick began his career in the planning and development of large-scale mixed use projects. These included both nationally recognized projects as well as international developments. After obtaining his license to practice architecture, he moved to northern Michigan and joined the practice. He became a partner and principal within the firm in 2018 and transitioned into his current role as Owner and President in 2022. Nick holds are architectural license in Michigan, Illinois, and Texas.

Liebler started at a young age emersed in the building world. The son of a custom home builder, he worked through architectural school both designing and building several homes in northern Michigan. This led to not only a great appreciation for the craft of building, but also a deep understanding of the constructability of an architectural vision. It has driven a level of documentation that bring value to his clients through the construction of their projects.

As managing principal, Nick oversees all operations of the firm and architectural designs, while engaging with clients to help develop homes that blend timeless architectural design with practical sensibility.

Drew Mittig, AIA NCARB
Director Of Project Management

After joining White & Liebler Architects in 2016, Drew Mittig completed his Master of Architecture in 2017 from Lawrence Technological University and obtained his licensure shortly after. He is licensed to practice in the State of Michigan. With a background in construction, Drew’s design philosophy combines practicality with an appreciation to how the built environment relates to the natural landscape. A northern Michigan native, Drew grew up with an inherent desire to enjoy the scenic views found throughout the area.

As Director of Project Management, Drew oversees staff Project Managers to ensure that our client’s projects are executed to the highest standards and in a timely manner. His attention to detail ensures a gratifying experience from design through construction.

Josh Creguer
Architectural Associate

After graduating with a BS in Architecture from Lawrence Technological University in 2006, Josh Creguer moved from the metro Detroit area to Petoskey. He quickly gained a love for the beauty of northern Michigan and its quieter pace of life. Josh developed a real appreciation for the built environment we interact with most, our home, and its relationship with the beauty of nature around us. He brings a keen eye for detail to every project that he’s involved with.

Growing up, Josh’s father worked as a finish carpenter and cabinet maker. He instilled in Josh a real sense of craftsmanship and attention to detail that has continued to shape his approach to architecture and design.

Sam DeJonge
Architectural Associate

Sam De Jonge began his career as an intern at White & Liebler Architects. Leaving to finish his education at Lawrence Technological University, Sam obtained both a BS in Architecture and a Master of Architecture in 2019. He returned to the firm after further internships in the Detroit area. Sam is currently sitting for his licensure exams.

A native to Petoskey, Sam’s interest in architecture and design builds from a family history in the craft. As the son of a custom boat builder, carpenter, and builder, Sam spent a great deal of time on jobsites and in wood shops. This upbringing planted the seeds to follow a similar path in the construction industry. This, coupled with a love of the outdoors, drives Sam’s approach to architecture; bring people closer together and closer to nature.

Jason Blanzy
Architectural Associate

Jason joined White & Liebler Architects in 2022, after working for architects in Chicago, SW Michigan and Colorado and eventually his own practice in SW Michigan. In 2008, he attended the School of Architecture at Andrews University where he studied architecture, urban planning, and discovered a passion for Near Eastern archaeology. The semester before graduation, Jason returned to the country of Jordan where he finished his architectural studies and began working with the American Center for Oriental Research (ACOR) in the ancient Nabatean city of Petra, as well as other ancient sites throughout Jordan. These include Tel Hisban and Tel Jalul.  Prior to pursuing his passion in architecture, Jason worked as a licensed residential builder, building numerous homes throughout southwest Michigan.

Jason is a Michigan native with a passion for the outdoors. He brings an appreciation for the intrinsic beauty of northern Michigan to White and Liebler Architects where he shares his high design standards, and passion for design.

Jacob Hudson
Architectural Associate

After graduating with a BS in Architecture from Ferris State University, Jake joined White and Liebler Architects in 2022. Originally from northern Michigan, his love for the water and family brought him back to the area. His appreciation for the vernacular that is unique to northern Michigan, and an understanding of contemporary practices make him a valuable member of the office. Jake is passionate about protecting our early and improving building performance through sustainable design. His skills in applying creativity to design, grounded in functionality produce a high quality of design to help fulfill our clients’ visions.

Jake has assisted in developing and implementing new technology within the office that streamlines our processes and improves the ability to communicate design ideas to both clients and contractors.

Anne Wooden
Office Manager

Anne Wooden earned her Bachelor’s in Business Education from Central Michigan University. Anne is also a native of Northern Michigan. After helping her husband with his career as a photographer, they moved back for the area. Holding various positions in accounting firms and offices in cities across the country, Anne developed experience in universities, law firms, research facilities and resorts. Her most recent experience with the Bay Harbor Company provided valuable knowledge of the industry within one of the firms strongest markets.

As Office Manager of the firm, Anne oversees all accounting aspects of the firm and ensures both staff and clients are taken care of. Anne is often our first point of contact with many clients as they engage with the firm.
